Winner of both the grand jury prize and the audience award at the 1997 Montreal World Film Festival, CHILDREN OF HEAVEN is a wonderfully charming tale of determined yet vulnerable youth on a quest more urgent than their years warrant. Ali, a young boy from a poor urban neighborhood, has lost his little sister's shoes while bringing them home from the shoemaker. Certian he will find them, Ali begs his sister, Zohre, not to tell their parents, who don't have the money to buy a new pair. But Zohre has no other shoes to wear to school. Together they decide that Zohre will wear Ali's shoes to attend girls' school in the morning and will rush home intime for Ali to wear them to boys' school in the afternoon. Their 'solution' requires more than just fine timing. "With its simple story of everyday life, its message of triumph of the will, and its use of nonprofessional actors in real locations, CHILDREN OF HEAVEN is one of the best of its kind." - Cinemaya (In Persian with English subtitles)
