OUT OF SIGHT

When you finally get up the courage to leave the old alcoholic boyfriend who abused you for years, he turned around and told you he had six months to live, and if you came back to him you'd have the ranch when he died. You're still young, but you're broke and you're blind. Now it's four years later and he still won't die. The dynamic Diane Starin, totally blind since 18 months, nonetheless rides horses, shoots, and visits bars and dance halls regularly. Digging deep into this vibrant heroine's life, documentarian David Sutherland comes up with a bluesy account of family friction and broken hearts. Diane shares a home and bed with Herb, a laconic, hard drinking cowboy twice her age. His drinking and emotional distance badly strain their relationship and Diane begins looking for love in all the other places. Then health crisis drastically changes the rules for everyone. Diane declares that if her story was a soap-opera script no one would ever believe it. But this is a true tale, as earthy and human as the country-and-western ballads Diane enjoys. OUT OF SIGHT is a close-up look at infidelity and an eavesdropper's dream.
