THE PRINCESS AND THE GOBLIN

It's been five years since the CIFF hosted a feature length Animated film. So it is a special pleasure to welcome this lavish cartoon adaptation of the classic 1872 novel by George MacDonald, whose fantasies anticipated those of J.R.R. Tolkien. The adventure takes place in a mountain kingdom honeycombed by vast caverns, in which evil (but quite comical) underground creatures plot to destroy the surface people. The deliciously nasty goblin prince has special plans for the human Princess Irene, but a brave young miner learns to fight the fiends with fancy footwork, song, and a touch of magic. Some of Britain's brightest character actors provide the voices behind this timeless story. C.C.
