THE BLUE DANUBE WALTZ
(KEK DUNA KERINGO)

Year: 1991
Country: Hungary/France/USA
Run Time: 89 minutes

The Hungarian Prime Minister has invited an American financier to visit Budapest with a view to buying up some old buildings and starting a new business. The Prime Minister's cousin, also a politician, is adamantly against the project; indeed, he regards the Prime Minister as dangerous to the country's future and even recruits the Prime Minister's wife into a plot to assassinate her husband. During a tour of an abandoned factory, the wife shoots her husband, and the chief of police, a former Communist official, is immediately called in to investigate. The case gets even more complicated when the police chief himself is killed, along with the Prime Minister's wife and a priest who happens to be a relative. The ironic conclusion raises questions about the politics of love and power in contemporary Hungary and throughout the world. In Hungarian with English subtitles.
