"Blast 'Em!" is the war cry heard when the paparazzi close in on their ever-elusive quarry, the American celebrity. It is also a euphemism for the attitude, "I don't have any sympathy for a guy who's making $20-30 million a year," declared by ace paparazzo Victor Malafronte. The paparazzi feed upon the public's I s incessant, sometimes morbid, obsession with the power of fame and celebrity to almost psychopathic proportions. Joseph Blasioli's first feature includes more star cameos than'7he Player," revealing a world rarely seen by the public. Following Malafronte and his cohorts on their stalking expeditions allows us to witness the continuous harassment under which most celebrities live. A funny, irreverent, sometimes serious look at cogs in the celebrity machine, BLAST'EM forces a rethinking of pop culture and the values we ordinarily take for granted.
