BROKEN SKY

The story of 13-year-old Erika (Susanna Kall) is set in a working class district in the desolate north of Sweden. The time is the war years of the 1940s. Sweden is at peace, but it is nevertheless a time of great insecurity. Erika's family is closely united, but life for each member means something different. Her mother Marta (Agneta Eckemyr) is aware of the larger world, but finds her security in accepting no other world than the one in which she is determined to live. Erika's father Axel (Thommy Berggren) has adapted to this narrow life, but is uneasy with it, knowing it has denied him a world of opportunity. As Erika becomes an adult, it is up to her to reconcile these strong forces in her own life and to make the difficult decision between accepting what has been or reaching for what could be.
